I have a knack and the knowledge for turning German and Spanish into English. Language translation is a complex process that involves much more than mere knowledge of a second language. Translators are linguists who must combine in-depth knowledge of language and culture with excellent writing skills, specialization and research. I am particularly keen on marketing and advertising (websites, press releases, etc.), commercial writing, business, and the environment.
I grew up bilingually, speaking English and German, and had already lived in the U.S.A. and Germany at a very young age. Having resided in Spain for many years, I also speak and read Spanish at a very high level. I have moved back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean several times, which has helped keep my language skills fresh.
This varied background also means that I am plugged into the cultures of the languages I work with, having picked them up on-site and as an avid reader of everything from classic literature to world news. Yet my writing skills are most developed in English, so I do not offer services into any language other than English.
Although language has been at the center of most of my working life, I discovered my gift for translation a bit later on. I have been a lifelong learner, most recently earning Certificates in Translation from a major American university where I was selected the Translation Program's Outstanding Student. Ten years earlier I was awarded a Master's Degree in Foreign Language Education, following a Bachelor's degree in German that stemmed from my original university experience on an athletic scholarship.
I have been translating part-time since the late 1990s and full time since 2005, and have been a member of the American Translators Association (ATA) since 2002 and the Atlanta Association of Interpreters and Translators (AAIT) since 2014.
